Rusty's Big Day – A heartwarming rhyming poem about Rusty, an old rusty lorry who proves that true worth comes from within, not from how shiny you look on the outside.
Rusty's Big Day
By Story Bell
At Hillside Depot, bright and wide,
Stood lorries gleaming, side by side.
But in the corner, old and small,
Sat Rusty, rustiest of all.

His paint was faded, cherry red,
With orange patches on his head.
The shiny lorries would not play,
They would turn their bumpers right away.

Look at Rusty Max would say,
So old and rusty, go away!
We are bright and new and made to shine,
Your rusty patches cross the line!

Poor Rusty sat beneath a tree,
As sad as any truck could be.
I wish he sighed with creaky door,
They would see I am good for so much more.

One day the manager came round,
A special job he said, profound.
The mountain village needs supplies,
But the road is steep with sharp surprise!
The shiny lorries shook with fear,
That winding road? Oh no, not here!
The turns are tight, the hills are tall,
We might slip up or even fall!

But Rusty rolled up, brave and true,
I will take the job, I will see it through!
My smaller size will serve me well,
On mountain roads where big trucks fell.
Up, up he climbed with steady pace,
Around each bend with careful grace.
His old worn wheels knew every trick,
Through rain and mud, through thin and thick.

The village children clapped and cheered,
As brave old Rusty finally appeared!
Hooray! Hooray! they sang with glee,
The bravest lorry we did see!

Back at the depot, what a sight!
The shiny lorries felt contrite.
Dear Rusty, we were wrong, they said,
We judged your patches, not your head.
Your rusty coat holds stories true,
Of all the helpful things you do.
We are sorry that we were so mean,
The kindest lorry we have seen!

Now Rusty parks right in the middle,
His rust spots solve the friendship riddle.
For what is outside does not define,
The heart within that truly shines!
So if you meet someone who is new,
With different looks or different hue,
Remember Rusty tale so bright,
True friends see hearts, not just the sight!
